A few weeks ago I got this message on my phone when I went into the Messaging App. Which seems strange to me that my phone doesn't know my number.
In any event I put in my number.
Well today it started doing it again.
Anybody else have this going on? Know what it is about?

Can you send and receive MMS messages? Where are you putting in your number? Are you responding to a text with your number?
I get it everytime I launch Messenger app. I've been getting iMessages. I don't have many people I do regular SMS/MMS with so I don't know if it is interfering with that.
It has a dialog that I can ignore it or open the settings. If ignore it seems like everything is working -- at least for iMessage -- but it keeps asking each time I go into the app.
If I tap the settings button I think it took me to the Phone preferences in settings. Where I had to fill in My Number.
It is just really strange that twice my phone wouldn't know who it is.
BTW, now that I've entered my number it isn't asking anymore. I'm just surprised that it happened again.
It is doing it again. Everytime I start up the messages app I get a dialog that says it needs to know my number.
But the messaging works — at least to an iMessage.
The same thing happened to me today – I have been on AT&T for about a year with my iPhone, and I get a pop-up in messaging that gives me a link to enter my phone number in settings. How did my phone lose my phone number in settings? I use MMS, SMS and imessage quite a bit.

I'm having the same issue you are. Is your phone unlocked? My unlocked 4s does that to me, then I enter my number and all is well for a little while. The funny thing is that I get the message just by opening the app--it doesn't have anything to do with whether I'm sending an MMS message.

I am having the same issue. iPhone4S, 5.1.1, not unlocked, on ATT.
3 times now in the last few weeks. If I re-add my phone number, everything is fine for a while and then it happens again.
Yes I am with AT&T as well. Nice to know that I'm not alone in this. To bad we don't know what is going on.
I might go into the genius bar this weekend and see if they have a clue.

Mine somehow repaired itself. I didn't put my number in, but now it knows it.
