Why are there glitches in the HDMI signal to my TV?

Bought a mini display out-to-HDMI adapter, and a 12-foot HDMI cable to attach my macbook pro (13-inch, 2.3 ghz Core i5) to my TV (Vizio HDTV)

After messing with the display control panel, got the displays to mirror. It works perfectly about 80 percent of the time, but there are times when the signal to the TV just goes black. SOmetimes there are green static flickers and colorful static.

Also last night it completely wouldn't recognize the TV until I turned everything off, switched HDMI ports, and restarted everything.

Are there ways to reduce the interference or whatever is causing these glitches?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

I had the same issue.

I too have a Vizio HDTV that I use as a monitor when I do graphics.

Sometimes, the image gets so blurry or has some static.

My issue however, was the HDMI cable.

Decided to try one of those cheap $9.99 cables. Returned it for the same cable and still got the same problem.

So, I returned that cable and went for a $29 cable and i have never had a problem since.
