Q: Back to my Mac not working the same now I've migrated to iCloud

Now I've migrated to iCloud and back to my mac is not working as it did when I was on Mobile Me. Before I could log in to one of my Macs at work or home even if it was asleep or at the log in screen. Now I can only log in if there is a user logged in and the machine is awake. Has anybody else noticed this and found a solution.

Various, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

None of the hardware has changed. The only difference is that I have migrated, and the behaviour of back to my mac has changed post migration.

Try going through the configuration of everything again. Preference setups may change when you migrate from an older version of software. BTMM in iCloud is not likely the same as it was under MobileMe.

I would hope one of the links might help you get things sorted out.

I had been having the same problem since upgrading to Lion (as you can see my latest post). I have two Macs here at my office (one on Lion and one on Snow Leopard) with a local Time Capsule and a remote Time Capsule across town (for back ups).

When I upgraded the one Mac to Lion I could no longer see the remote Time Capsule and the local Time Capsule said I needed to re login to BTMM using iCloud to restore functionality. I did that and the Lion Mac was happy with that TC, however it could still not connect to the remote TC. The other Mac with Snow Leopard can connect to both the local and remote TCs no problem.

So, there seems to be a significant difference between BTMM for MobileMe and iCloud. But how to I re-establish connection to my remote TC without physically relocating it to my local network when just about any help or troubleshoting always seems to begin with:

How to set up your Time Capsule or 802.11n-based AirPort base station for Back to My Mac

    1. Make sure you are on the same local area network as the Time Capsule or 802.11n-based AirPort base station that you wish to configure.

I wouldn't think I'd have to do that just for a LOCAL OS upgrade.

BTW: All software and firmware are current and upgraded.

    Regards,

    Scott

Other than the links in my earlier post I don't know how to help you because I don't use BTMM.

Interestingly I had been unable to connect remotely using Back to my Mac for the past month or so (since Mobile Me was discontinued), even though I migrated to iCloud last year.

This morning however (when the grace period for retrieving data had expired), I am able to connect again ? related to finally turning the Mobile Me servers off?

    Anyway good news.

My BTMM still not working correctly.  Worked great in Snow Leopard and MobileMe, but not in Mountain Lion with iCloud.  I use between my home and work iMacs.  I can sometimes see other computer as shared device and I have sometimes been able to connect from work to home, but still haven't been able to connect from home to work----which I thought was the easiest.  The few times I have had it connect, it takes a minute or two---previously, it was just a few seconds under MobileMe.

Not sure what's wrong, but I'm seeing more and more posts on this issue so something is going on....very frustrating.

Works on my Lion computers at home but distnt screen share and computer access is so slow as to be unuseable.

Signed out of Mobileme, checked all sharing preferences.

    Worked fine in Snow Leopard.

Had to go back to iChat screen sharing.

BTMM works fine on My Mtn Lion iMacs IF they are on the same local network, but keep getting "server does not exist or in unavailable at this time."

I think I finally discovered why BTMM is not working between home and work.  I changed Energy Saver setting so my computer "never sleeps" and it worked fine.  Apparently, my "wake on network access" setting doesn't work when trying to connect to work computer from home---I confirmed this was true even on my LAN.

BTMM funtionality has mysteriously returned. The only thing that changed was that my Comcast service was down for about two minutes, then came back.

I've been also having an issue with BTMM since the end of MobileMe. When out and about my notebook sees my desktop and can even open and use file shares. But, after the desktop has been running for a while screen sharing fails to connect. The only remedy is to reboot the desktop. This even happens locally not just from out on the road. And since I'm gone for several weeks at a time, this is quite troublesome.
