i cant interact with anything on the screen accept music when i press home button twice and change color of screen when i press home button 3 times....is the screen locked and if it is how do i unlock it

i dont have the stuff on my ipod touch saved to my computer....so i cant reset my ipod cause ill lose all my stuff right?
i just tryed resetting it and the apple logo came up then i connected it to my computer and it sayed my ipod cannot be used with itunes till i put in the passcode
slide to unlock is gone how do i unlock ipod without restoring or is the screen locked and if so how do i unlock it
