Remove contacts group "on my iPhone"

I just upgraded from 4.3.3 to 5.1.1 and enabled iCloud for the first time. Till now I was syncing contacts from my computer, and I enabled iCloud syncing and all worked well. I made sure iTunes is set to sync from iCloud instead of the computer.

However, now I have an empty group in contacts called "on my iPhone" and I can't delete it. What do I do to remove it? Everythin else is great, Calendar and notes sync to iCloud with no extra groups, it's only contacts.

Thanks!

I'll couldn't sync the On my iPhone group away but when I'll disabled all contacts accounts and Facebook contacts and then create a new contact on my empty contacts screen and reenable iCloud I'll was told that all contacts would be transferred to iCloud when proceeding. So I'll proceed and the On my iPhone group was gone. btw I'm using an iPhone 4S with iOS 6.1.1. I'll hope this helps some people

No because there are no groups listed on iCloud, it's only All Contacts. There is no "on my Mac" or "on my iPhone" group anywhere on iCloud.

When I first updated to 5.1.1 I syncs everything from my Mac, then enabled iCloud after. So that's where the group came from initially. When I disabled syncing from my computer and told it to sync with icloud, it deleted all the contacts in the group "on my iPhone" but kept the empty group. It created a group "in iCloud" and all my contacts are there.

Now I'm stuck with a useless empty group.

Hi... I was having the same problem... a group didn't just show up but i wanted to delete groups and couldn't find it anywhere when I was syncing my phone and on the phone itself it did not give me the option... If you are using the phone with a Mac then all you have to do is plug your phone into the computer and click on your address book and delete the groups from within there!

Hope it works

I found that if you go to iCloud preferences under the Mail, Contact, Calendars in iPhone settings and uncheck "Contacts" and turn them off and then re-check "Contacts" again all your contacts are in one place without the All on my iPhone or All on iCloud groups.

I had the same problem. lexohare's answer worked! Thank you.
