There is no way to add data to an iPod, if you did, well it'd be the iPhone.
But as suggested above, something like a mifi might help. It makes a local wifi hotspot that you connect the touch to to use data

Nope, the touch only has WiFi, for a data plan you will need an iPhone or 3G iPad. We don't know, but this is probably something Apple will add in the future to the iPod touch.
