My iPhone 4s Mail application says incorrect username or password, but that is not true I am entering the correct user name ands password, it drives me crazy any idea how to fix this?
I tried everything even turned the two step verification off on my laptop.
iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1
Try this...
Delete the Gmail account on your iPhone... Close All Open Apps... Perform a Reset and Try again.
Reset...
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

So you Deleted the Account on the Phone and then Recreated it on the phone...

Google has locked your account, common when setting up Gmail on a mobile device. This is done to stop spammers/hackers. Try using the captcha unlock:

This helped me out. works pretty fast.
If you get an error says: Cannot Get Mail. The user name or password for "Gmail" is incorrect
dont trust iPhone you have entered the correct user name and pass just go to the link above to solve your problem.

If Mail just refuses to work, download the free Gmail app from the iOS App Store.
What if your problem is that you can't sign into the GMail App, but your password is correct, AND, it says not to use application specific password?
Just switch off your WiFi and use your mobile data to add the account.
This issue was resolved 4 years ago.
