I've just purchased a Mini Display Port to HDMI Adaptor, The picture is great, quality is super, however I can only here sound through my Macbook pro. I know my MBP supports sound through HDMI, I've checked System Information and under Audio built in, there is HDMI Display port output. I don't know how to tell MBP to play sound through HDMI.
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Magic Mouse, and airport express
It's in System Preferences > Sound > Output tab > select your device.
Also you can hold the option key down and click the Volume icon on the menubar to select output devices.
Sound is supported on
MacBook Pro (Mid 2010) and later
Ok, I do that, but there is only Internal speakers option under Output tab.
It's probably the MDP to HDMI adapter. They should support audio like this one:

Ok, It hink the problem is my adapter, because I doesn't say MDP to HDMI with audio support on the box.
I've had the exact same problem and for my 2010 MBP I've ended up purchasing 3 adapters 😟
altho the above moshi was listed as audio support it did not do the trick for me ..
and the griffin one finally did .. it's an amazing adapter by design and all .. I recommend

Thanks for the Help, Griffin did solve my problem. and not only it has HDMI but I can also hook my MBP to a DVI monitor, nice! This product is awesome! I wish, I never bought the first adaptor, now I have a useless cable paid by my hard earned cash, which will go into the dust bin 😟
