brightness control

i know this sound simple but i don't know... has anyone used the calibrate setting under "displays"? my screen never seems right when i have photos printed. i have used four different labs and each time the print does not match my screen. either way to dark or way to light on print. how many bars should i have when i click the 'brightness" button (f2) what is default?

thanks for your help.

There are a number of different programmed color calibrations available which you might try. You should be able to use Google to find them.

I would suggest that you put this query into the iPhoto and/or Aperture forums. There you will find users who are specifically engaged in issues such as this.
