Is it possible to make FCP4 read mpeg4's?

MPEG-4 is not an editing codec. Not supported.

mpeg4, 2,1 are all delivery formats and as such are intended for VIEWING only.
You probably mean EDIT mpeg4 ...
To edit, you need to convert the file into a quicktime compatable format - DV, uncompressed 8bit, etc.

And converting heavily compressed mp4 to an editable codec will not look pretty
gotcha.
the reason i ask is because i had to pull footage off an actress' reel to re-edit. she only had the reel on dvd, and the only dvd ripping program i have can only rip into MPEG4.
luckily, she also had the footage on a dv tape.
does anyone know of any good dvd ripping programs - that rip to avi, mpeg1/2 or mov files?

I use Cinematize, $60 or $70. If there's copy protection, it won't rip.
