Backed up iPhone, didn't transfer music

Old laptop went kaput, so I got a new one. When I plugged my iPhone in for the first time, I backed it up. I then had to erase and synch in order to link it with my new computer. After it was erased, I restored from back up, and now there is no music on the phone. Have I lost everything, or is it still possible to recover? My iTunes library has more music than can fit on my phone, so I would have to sort through everything all over again.

Thanks

The backup does not include any itunes content.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.

Use your backup copy to put everything back.

If for some reaosn you haev failed to maintain a backup copy, not good, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries.

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

Music and other iTunes media is not part of the iPhone backup (it is assumed to already be in your iTunes library on your computer). You can redownload any music purchased from the iTunes store for free (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519), but imported music from CDs and other sources is lost unless you still have it on your old phone, and it is in working order. If it was, you could transfer your music from your old phone to your iTunes library by using 3rd party software such as Touch Copy.

Edit: Sorry, re-read you post and now see that it was your computer that was replaced not your phone (so you don't have an older phone to transfer your music from).

No iTunes content is included with the iPhone's backup. This includes music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, ringtones, audio and print books, and apps.

If your iTunes library is included with your computer's backup, transfer it to your new computer. When syncing music making use of iTunes playlists, all you need to do is reselect the playlists, and/or artists, albums, and genres. Manually managing music is manual all the way.
