I want to add an airport express to my existing net work to strengthen its signal . I cant get the network to see it. Do I need to reset the express. I use a airport extreme base station.

Give it a factory reset. Also, bring your device a little closer to the express (or other way around) to easier detect the weak set-up signals. Worse comes to worse, we may want to connect to it over ethernet to set it up.
I found an older Mac book pro plugged it in and then plugged express in direct and didn't allow update. The express is a great way to play music in other rooms.
