How do I upgrade from OS 10.5 to 10.6?

I just purchased a track pad for an older iMAC 7.1. My OS is version 10.5.8, but I need a version later than 10.6.5 according to the track pad instructions. How do I obtain this version?

My software says it is updated and I didn't find this version to download on the software update page?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Go to Apple's Online Store and order the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD - $29.00. Be sure your computer meets the requirements:

Snow Leopard General requirements

  • Mac computer with an Intel processor
  • 1GB of memory
  • 5GB of available disk space
  • DVD drive for installation
  • Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
  • Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
