Oki printer connection issue

I'm having trouble connecting my Oki 5150n printer. Prior to upgrading to Lion I had it plugged in with a USB cable to my airport extreme. Worked great. I saw that they finally released a driver for it and I installed it, and again plugged it into the back of my airport extreme, but am getting plug-in failed messages when I try to use it:

/Library/Printers/OKIDATA/Filters/OKIHC002.plugin/Contents/MacOS/OKIHC002 failed

On the OKI site it says:

Note for USB connection : Select OKI(USB Hiper-C) from USB connection list.

Would I need that driver, do you think? And, though not an Mac issue, I cannot for the lift of me find the USB connection list on the Oki site.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A similar situation--

'Ended up spending 6+ hours with OKI tech support. We tried many many things but in the end could not get my brand new OKI 511dn to print wirelessly when connected using USB via a hub. Tech support concluded that it must have something to do with the way the printer handles PostScript.... Something about Apple wireless products / Bonjour not being able transfer PostScript correctly via USB. So if I had bought a cheaper laser printer (non PostScript) then I should have had no problem--so goes the logic!

In the end, we were able to connect my new printer using LAN (going the IP and not USB route) via Airport.

In the process I ended up buying a 10-meter long USB extension cable which I won't be using, and I had to go out and buy a 15-meter LAN cable to "reroute". I am glad that I'm connected now but it took so so so many hours of trial and error and time on the phone with tech support (not toll-free where I'm located)...I am exhausted!

Bottom line: If you want to connect the latest OKI series color laser printer wirelessly through a USB hub and access it with Bonjour, you might want to go with a lower-end non-PostScript printer. Or, make sure that OKI has an updated driver that is compatible before whipping out your credit card.

I hope that this helps someone.

Same proble, here's what I did:

1. Search for "OKI" in spotlight and delete all OKI*.plugin files and all OKI files in /Library/Printers/PPDs/Conents/Resources/

2. Download fresh latest driver at http://www.okidata.com/mkt/html/nf/Drivers.html

3. Reinstall BUT specify "Line PRinter Daemon - LPD" and choose the OKI driver.

I had the same .../OKIHC002 failed message and this fixed it.

Good luck!

Sorry a little cryptic there.

1. Select System Preferences>Print&Scan

2. Click the "+" sign on the bottom left of the printer list adn select "Add other printers and scanners"

3. In the "Add Printer" window select the blue globe icon "IP"

4. In the "Protocol:" select "Line Printer Daemon - LPD"

5. Type the IP address of your printer (from it's LCD screen menus or use Angry IP) in the "Address:" box in the form 10.1.10.23 for example. No need for http://. If you typed a good address it will be indicted directly below the box.

6. Choose the driver you installed, if it doesn;t do it automatically.

7. Click "Add"

That's it!

2 clues in this thread helped me piece the problem together.

It seems OKI printers and Bonjour printer configuration don't get along.

OKI printers configured via Bonjour are prone to fail.

I deleted my Bonjour OKI printers (across 3 computers) and re-configured them using LPD and manually entering the IP (sometimes I had to manually select the driver too). Anyway, that fixed the issue for me
