my iphone memory is full because of "other"

My phone was telling me for a couple of days that the memory was nearly full, so I deleted a bunch of apps, photos and videos. It should have relieved the issue, but it got worse. I tried to reboot it but that did not help, so I deleted more photos. I tried to reboot again, and have been stuck in a repeating boot loop since then. I tried to restore from my last backup (3/31/12), but the "Other" is still full on my memory. Any ideas? What is in there? Do I have to do a full restore to factory settings? I need some of the numbers in there...

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1

How big is "Other"? If it is very large (e.g., 5 GB) you have memory corruption on your phone. You need to restore it as a new phone.
