My friends can text me videos from their iphone 4 that are 3-4 min in length but I can only send ones that are 30 seconds. Why is that? I'm running 5.1 IOS.

But they send me 4 min long videos taken with their iphone 4, send them via text and the quality is perfect and we have the exact same phones. That doesn't make sense.
Are they actually sending them via MMS or iMessage? iMessage does not have a file size limitation.
There is a file size limitation for MMS messages.
The quality of the video and the length of time determines it's file size. Once it hits the max file size, it simply cannot be sent via MMS.
Any reason why you cannot simply email it to whomever you're trying to send it to?
they are sent via iMessage. Is there a way to make sure a text is sent via iMessage vs. regular text? I thought iphones running the latest IOS automatically sent iMessage type text to other iPhones running latest IOS which in this case both are.
iOS5 attempts to send the message via iMessage first then reverts to SMS if it cannot connect for some reason.
Are you replying to their messages or sending a new message? If sending a new message... are you selecting the correct contact? When sending a simple text message to the user (no media attached) does it send as iMessage (blue) or SMS (green)?
When you are able to successfully send a video message, does it send via MMS or iMessage?
Have you tried disabling and re-enabling iMessage?
Also, basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore... try each of these in order until the problem is resolved.
The standard simple texts I send go via iMessage (blue) and when I attached a video from my cameral roll it is sent on the thread of previous texts. Thats why this all doesn't make sense. :-/
