What? It was announced to day that is is being released in the fall for all iDevices. What are you talking about.
He is talking about the fact that at the WWDC it was announced it would be available for the iPad 2 and the new iPad, the iPhone 3Gs, 4, and 4Gs, and the 2nd Generation through 4th Generation iPod Touch.
No iPhone 2G or 3G, no original iPad. The 1st iPad does not have sufficient RAM for iOS 6.
This information is provided at the very end of the link that Demo posted.

@deggie It does. The iPhone 3GS has the same amount of RAM and IS getting an update.
Different graphics chip, and more importantly different screen size from the 3Gs, meaning the iPad allocates more RAM for video than the 3Gs does. Whatever, the original iPad will not get the update and I'm sure Apple engineers had a reason.
You really think iOS6 would run well on a 3GS? It barely runs iOS5.

Indeed, IOS6 is not for the iPad .......
iPad 2 yes
iPad New yes
I remain gutted .........
Get the new iPad. The Retina display will remove that gutted feeling in no time. And if you should go for the LTE access the speed will knock you out.
And it will run iOS6, including Siri.
Then sell your iPad. I sold mine to a 5 month old prior to getting my new one. The new home button lock will be great for him.
Gotcha! It wasn't very clear to me what he was sad about. I agree, buy the new iPad. It is spectacular!
It is spectacular, indeed. But still, my original iPad is actually still covered by warranty (2 yr European warranty). And the 3GS barely runs iOS 5, as mentioned above. The iPad 1 ran iOS 5 without any lag, everything was pure speed. Why discontinue a device that can perfectly run the software? There is no reason for that.
Compared to the iPad 2 or new iPad (3), the original iPad isn't near as fast. As I said above with the limited RAM available COUPLED with the larger screen and graphics issues I don't doubt that Apple engineers were unable to come up with a version that would run reliably on the original iPad. That would be the reason and we have no way of knowing how well the original iPad runs iOS 6. Apple's engineers do.
You are allowed to sell a device that still has a warranty.
Maybe there is a reason, maybe there isn't. We don't know (and will we ever ?). And, back to the 3GS. The 3GS has a 600Mhz processor. The iPad 1 has a 1Ghz Apple A4 processor, which is the same as in the iPhone 4! And actually, those two devices have the same amount of RAM (both have 256MB). Not wanting to blame anyone, but if Apple can make such beautiful new devices every year, I'm sure they would've been able to come up with a solution for the 'graphics issues'...
With iOS5 there were a lot of 1 owners that were far from impressed with the speed after the upgrade and felt that iOS5 bogged it down too much.
I can see how it's frustrating. I mean I have a touch 4 that's barely upgraded and I've had battery issues with it after iOS5.
technology moves on and things become obsolete. Like the laptop that i have at work that is needed to run a program, but a program that's XP only an we can't upgrade it anyway because it simply lacks the power to upgrade to windows 7. We've been facing the same thing with our Power PC macs, new versions of the software that wont run on the older OS.
There's not a computer company out there that's 100% backwards compatible, everyone eventually 'abandons' older tech.
I agree, iOS 5 was a disappointment. But 5.1 fixed everything, my iPad was like new again 🙂. And I've never had battery issues on my iPad, battery life was always great, even when the somewhat slower 5.0 came out... Anyway, that's just my opinion 😉.
iOS 6 is compatible with the fourth gen iPod touch. That iPod has the same A4 processor as the iPad 1 but runs a little slower liek 800 MHz and has the same memory. The iPad 1 screen is 1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi)
While the 4G iPod is 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 pixels per inch
So maybe it is because the the iPoad 1 has more pixals/more ram is rquired for the video.
The iPad 2 was released on March 25, 2011, meaning that the original iPad was on sale March 24. By not allowing it to run ios6 they are making a device obsolete that was selling less than 15 months ago. It's disgraceful. Yes, tech does go out of date, but there is absolutely no need from this.
