What happens to movies deleted from ipad?

I have deleted movies purchased on iTunes to make space but I cannot see them in my purchased tab?

Have I lost them?

iPad 2, iOS 5.1.1

Movies are only available for redownload in the U.S and not all movies are available for this feature.

Have you failed to backup your purchases?

That is dissappointing. I am surprised at how limited iTunes is. I wish it had been made apparent at purchase and at deletion.
