im a brand new apple user and a self taught pc user,,,,,i just got a G5 and want to know if i can connect to wireless networks like with my pc?all the airport stuff has me confused........isnt there a way to link with my existing wifi?

im new and learning,can i connect with available wifi networks like i do with my pc?the airport terminology has me confused.

As with any computer, a wireless adapter is needed.

In a Mac, Apple calls the wireless system Airport Extreme, with the adapter cards being the Airport Extreme card.


There are some special Airport Extreme cards, but most G5s (all except the Late 2005 dual core G5s) use this card:

Once a wireless adapter is installed, then the machine can be configured to connect to a wireless router via System Preferences/Network settings.


USB wireless adapters may also be used, as may PCI wireless adapters.

Late 2005 G5s cannot use PCI adapters as the machines are PCIe.

So, in the System profiler/Network/WiFi under Interfaces the Card Type is listed as Airport Extreme?


If installed, open System Preferences/Network and turn Wi-Fi On.

Once it is on, you should be offered the option to connect to an existing network.


Otherwise, configure as described:
