I'm trying to fix my mother-in-law PowerMac G4. She doesn't remember the admin password and I've been trying to reboot from the install cd. However, after pushing the "c" button. Nothing happens and it boots normally. Any ideas would be helpful!
Try holding Option and selecting the CD from the Startup Manager.
I did that too and nothing. PowerMac is running 10.4.11 and I'm trying to reinstall from the PowerMac disk that came with it. (10.2)
Is the optical drive working/spinning the disc?
Is the disc correct for the machine?
BTW, it isn't good to repair a newer OS with an older OS.
Try fsck to repair.
Like I said, try fsck, as it is possible that the Tiger install is either blocking the boot to an older OS disc, or, the Tiger volume is so damaged that it prevents boot.
To eliminate Hard Drive interference, pull the IDE cable from the drive & see if it boots from the CD.
What is the 2z691-****-A number on the Install Disc?
