Q: can you use the airport express as a wireless extender with the extream

I have the extreme and the express I was told that I could use the express as a extender on the extreme but I can't get the two to connect

AirPort Extreme 802.11n (5th Gen)

If the express is fairly recent, should basically set itself up automatically on any iOS device...
