needing little help please. am try to install 10.6.2 overtop of 10.5.8 on an imac(7,1 version) intel based machine.
have tried repairing permissions and installing from a time-machine backup but both to no avail. any other suggestions/thoughts please?

You can't install that machine specific version on a Mac model other than the one it shipped with. There never were any retail 10.6.2 DVDs.

i thought i could upgrade via my mom's os x disc. if i were to buy a copy will it work ok? or should i just wait for 10.7 now?

Why wait? SL's available for $29 USD at http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A. ML's not due out until late July. Do note that Lion and ML won't run PPC apps since it won't run Rosetta.
ha, i've waited how many years to upgrade now . . . another month or so won't make that much of a difference i think. just wanted to make sure that it will upgrade my mac.
plus it looks like it will be cheaper 10 bucks cheaper as well, go figure
