Kernel Panic After Thunderbolt Update

I have a one year old MBP. A few minutes ago I installed the Thunderbolt Update that Apple released today. At the conclusion of the update, it said it had failed to install and that I needed to restart the Mac. On doing so, I got a kernel panic. And now every time I try to boot, I get a kernel panic. I'm dead. Ideas?

Thanks.

Same thing here. Kernel panic. Looked at the error message in the kernel panic and was immediately convinced it was the Thunderbolt update. Reverted to 10.7.2 using a Lion DVD I made and did not need to resort to Time Machine, thank goodness, as it's a while since I backed up. Funky font problem in MS Word but otherwise OK. Ran all updates including back to 10.7.4, except for the Thunderbolt. Working fine now, fonts included.

I just performed the combo update via Target mode, and everything is running perfectly. No lost data... Safari tabs, Finder windows, other open apps, etc... it's all there!

Only catch for me was that the "normal" 10.7.4 update did not work, as I am running Lion Server. However, you can find the 10.7.4 Server Combo Update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1529

Good luck!

Hi there,

Thanks for the info about reinstalling Lion.

Can I ask? I get to the point where it says 'Downloading Additional Components. Your computer will restart automatically.'

But then it goes back to the previous screen where you can choose Reinstall Lion and it doesn't restart.

What should I do? Manually restart it to continue the installation?

Thanks,

Andy

Thanks for the info on this. I'm also impacted, and on holidays away from my time machine backups :(.

Fortunately I have Internet connection where I am for these couple of days.

'downloading additional components...' did not move for some time but is slowly moving now, says it will take over 9 hours!

This is pretty poor form by Apple and worse that they did not pull the update. Have we got to the point where we need to check the forums before doing any minor update. I hope not.

I'll let you know if this works, but from other comments, it looks like it should.

I wish I had heard about this before I updated at 9:30 EST.... Luckily I have another Mac for target disk mode and an iPad so I could find a solution so quickly... I'm running an early 2011 MBP and this is certainly not what I wanted to do on my day off.....Thanks to all you guys for figuring this out!!!!!!!! I'm applying the combo update now and hopefully all is good from here... thanks community

I'm not sure about this. I haven't heard of it returning to the previous screen. Do you have an internet connection that is working?

It should move from the downloading additional components to a progress bar and estimated time to completion, then installing the os, and after that rebooting to your login or desktop.

It shouldn't require a manual restart for this process. Anyone else have advice on this one?
