OPTIARC DVD RW AD-7170A issues with reading DL DVDs

Hi,


I just wanted to let you know, that after unsuccsesful lens cleanings I did the fw flash.

I have a MacPro3.1 on 10.5.8 OSX. I used the http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/Optiarc-AD-7170A/ 102cbt_rpc1.bin bin file for flashing the drive. And flashed it with the http://binflash.cdfreaks.com/ Binflash utility within the terminal.

Here are the results:


BEFORE FLASH

I've been trying with the above mentioned tools to no avail. I keep getting a 'command not found' reply in terminal. I've double clicked on the Binflash utility and it listed the commands in terminal

and said logout. I logged out and in again and tried the commands with the below results.

What am I doing wrong?

Media: To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose File > Refresh Information

Lars, read carefully these instructions and remember that I'm not responsible to any damage that you could do to your computer by doing this:


  1. Copy necflash to the /usr/bin folder (to reach there Finder > SHFT+CMD+G and enter the name of the folder);
  2. Download and unzip the 102c image: http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/disclaimer/en/7170a/102c.7z.html in any folder (I suggest you to use your home folder, it's where Terminal starts);
  3. From this folder, open a terminal window;
  4. Scan to know the device's reference: necflash -scan (in my case was A:);
  5. Backup the original FW in case of something goes wrong: necflash -dump OldFirmware.bin a: (the a: is the reference to the device that you'd got when running -scan it will take some minutes, wait for it until the prompt line appears again);
  6. Finally, flash the new FW: necflash -flash 102cbt_rpc1.bin a: (again, the a: is the reference to the device that you'd got when running -scan);
  7. Accept the terms (I think it's twice) entering y [enter] then y [enter] again;
  8. Wait until the prompt again (don't do anything while waiting).


If anything goes wrong, flash again with the your backed up FW: necflash -flash OldFirmware.bin a:

Mario, I am trying to do the update mentioned above but am not very computer savvy when it comes to using Terminal. Your directions are very straightforward but I'm afraid I donn't know "exactly" what to type in Terminal and all I get is "command not found" when I type necflash -scan at the prompt.


Can you do a very simple walkthrough for me?
