I'm not able to remove the memory. The tabs don't work. Any ideas?

My iMac didn't respond this morning (I put it to sleep last night). The power button doesn't work. I unplugged it, tried it in a different outlet, disconnected all peripherals. The support page suggests removing and putting back the memory as a last resort. But the tabs don't release the memory. Any ideas how to overcome this problem? All I want to do is unseat and reseat the memory cards.

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

You have to pull very hard on the release tab. The first time I did it I thought it was going to break something.

I doubt that is the problem. Listen very carefully for any fan noise from the upper left. If you hear nothing at all, the power supply might have failed. Fortunately it is not terribly expensive to replace.
