importing AVCHD from Sony NEX-5N

Hi

has anybody had success dogin this with A3.3? The import function on A3.3 defualts to the "stills" folder on the Sony and I cannot figure out how to get A3.3 to look in another folder on the Sony i.e. change folders to import.

I have tried setting the playback folder to the AVCHD folder and then connect to A3.3 to import but this did not work

Aperture 3, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

thanks for the suggestion. they are never "discovered".

as a test, i uploaded a couple stills and a mp4 video of a similar size as the AVCHD video and waited. no luck

I also tried to move the folder containig the AVCHD files into the MP_ROOT on the camera since it can find files in that folder.

still no luck

I am thinking that given that A3.x does not even upload most of the metadata, that Apple has done an incomplete port to the Sony series of digital cameras.

Connected my Sony CX-560, and the video clips on it were fairly quickly presented along with JPEGs. One clip was chosen for a test, and downloaded rather quickly, and played nicely. offered the option to make a still frame just as with video from my DSLR.

I have little need to use Aperture for AVCHD as I use Final Cut to process those, but seems to work.

Hi Ernie

what is the file structure on your Sony? just wondering if it is different since you have a camcorder.

Tehre are three system folders that the NEX-5N uses .. on for the stills, one for MP4 and one for AVCHD. A3.x auto finds the stills and MPr when i connect the camera but there is no way to change the folders within A3.x

I tried copying the AVCHD files into the stills folder and the MP4 folder and reconnected but still no luck

Hi there. For anyone searching, here are the results of my research and corresponding advice back to Sony...

Thanks, your comments looked correct but did not solve my problem. You may be interested to know after much testing and research, I was able to ascertain that some of the camera's AVCHD settings iMovie cannot see at all (only some, which made it even harder to figure out!). Plus, if you have recorded movie clips in more than one format to the memory card (MP4 or any one of the AVCHD's), iMovie cannot see any of the AVCHD's.

Bottom line - forgo the benefits of AVCHD on the Sony NEX-5N and just use MP4 until Apple makes it easier.
