Alot of what makes Apple what it is and what keeps alot of people buying Apple products is emotion believe it or not. I'm not quite sure if management at Apple realizes that, it's not just economics it's a balance of both.

When you **** off Apple fans... lets just say Apple fans can be as loud and vocal about Apple as Apple can be ligitious with it's patent suits.

As one of the posters pointed out there really was no practical reason at the time to buy the origional iPad. In the state that it was in, other than good marketing and Steve's reality distortion field (which he was really good at). There was no iBooks app, no Kindle app, no News Stand app, no FaceTime it was really just a larger heavier iPod Touch.

I have heard from many peoplem myself included who purchased an origional iPad that for the most part after the first few weeks it just sat in a drawer same goes for me. It wasn't until recently that I started using it more to watch movies on netflix (which didn't exist at the time), read the news.

I don't think iPad users are even asking for every feature just the basic ones like tab syncing in safari, vip lists in mail. You can't tell me that these features require so much more processing power that the origional iPad can't handle it.

You are wrong, take the Xbox 360. Microsoft has been updating my system for 5 years and it works great. So yes apple is being greedy.

Don't you have anything better to do with your time? If something works great, why be forced to replace it? Eventually apps will not work and you are stuck with a working "outdated" device because the manufacturer refuses to keep all of their customers up to date and not just the sheeple like you that is in line first thing in the morning on the new device release dates!!

Also, jail breaking your device doesn't ruin your device and it is legal, so what's it to you? All you do is update your device using iTunes and your iPad goes right back to how it was. The way some of you people act about apple and Steve jobs I would think I am reading a forum about Jesus Christ and Catholics.

Very disappointed that iOS 6 is unavailable for the iPad1. The ridiculous comments by the true believers lead me to believe they don't live in the real world, paying bills and looking at a tablet as a luxury, rather than a casual purchase.  As stated, XP / XP Pro is still supported by MS.  This in itself will tip the scale for me to purchase a Surface when the need arises to replace my tablet.  MS at least supports those of us who value a dollar.

Since you don't seem to have the same concern as most of us on this discussion, which after all is about the CONCERN, keep your opinion to yourself and move on.

I love my original iPad and it still works fantasticly, so why would I want or need to go drop several hundred dollars on the 'bigger better' one?? My money is tied up in college expenses, which is what I bought the iPad for to start with, so I don't have the luxury to run out and buy a new one just because Apple feels its old.

I fully understand that all devices such as tablets, smart phones, and computers eventual become obsolete. We aren't as stupid as you seem to think we are. If you would actually READ what people are saying and not just what the topic is we're discussing, you might actually see that. The point we are making is that the original iPad has only been out for TWO years, and most are still working perfectly fine, but now they will start to take a nose dive. (from what I'm reading, it's already started) All the apps that we use are already starting to not support iOS 5 and the rest are soon to follow. And what about the fact that Apple has made it so all of their products are compatible with each other (ie iCloud, iTunes, store, etc...)? What happens when some devices are stuck with iOS 5 while others are on iOS 6 or higher when the time comes?

Even if the original iPad can't handle iOS 6, why not a lite version so at least our devices will be able to sync and somewhat keep opperating normally?! Instead we will end up with a perfectly functioning, very expensive paper weight. The point many are trying to make all goes back to the fact that the original iPad is only TWO years old and has been dropped when something like my Windows laptop which is going on SEVEN years old still gets updates.

Before you go another rant about that, by no means am I trying to say that Windows is better! I personally am tired of the constant issues, as are many, and was getting ready to replace it with an Mac...until this. I would rather put up with the issues Windows has than to be tossed aside after so little time, specially seeing how much more money all Apple products costs. As I said, I am paying a college tuition and have to be very sure of all purchases at this time. I can't afford to drop money on a computer, or even a new iPad for that matter, only to find out that I'm S.O.L within a couple of years.

So how about you get off your soapbox and let alone those of us who want to DISCUSE a common concern, not tell everyone they are wrong because they don't agree with you. I think you might be confused as to the definition of a DISCUSSION...it's not a preaching session by one person.

I bought my iPad 1 right when it came out. I don't need an iPad 3, 4 or whichever model they release. I don't need the camera, and I don't need to ask anything of Siri. I am content with 1.

I just want to access features in updates for apps I bought through the app store (ie Apple profited from). Several apps are unable to update without having iOS 6. Maybe that is a complaint for the app makers and not Apple. But seeing as the iOS 6 technically could be released for iPad 1, and knowing that I will continue to buy apps (of which they get a cut) and one day possibly buy a new iPad, why does Apple go out of their way to not release this for iPad 1? All they have done is cut me out of their market, and proved to me that if I ever do buy another tablet it certainly won't be an Apple product.

You are wrong, there was no dev preview of iOS6 for iPad1.

Ok, so it's not a developer preview. But it is for the original iPad. And it shows that work on iOS6 for the original iPad was in progress when the plug got pulled.

I don't care if iOS6 for the original iPad is bereft of new features. In fact, I don't mind if I lose features like Maps and Youtube either (the Youtube client that comes with iOS5 is pants anyway- can't sort videos by uploaded date). Like HR4079, all I want is for my iPad to continue receiving updates and continue to be usable when developers of the apps I use drop support for iOS 5 in a few months from now. Heck, I'm already very ****** off in that I cannot install Photoshop Touch on it (1GHz with 256MB of RAM insufficient? Back in 1996, I ran Photoshop 4 on a Pentium 166! With only 32MB of RAM! And a 2.5GB hard disk!). I don't even think it's worth buying a new iPad now anyway- it's already 6 months into said iPad's life and given Apple's current treatment, it means only 1.5 years before Apple declares it obsolete against my wishes as well. No reason for me to buy a device that becomes obsolete 6 months after I finish paying off the loan. Or ****, if I go for a two year loan given my current financial status, It'll be obsolete 6 months before I even finish paying off the **** loan!

When incremental upgrades that incorporate bug fixes and security issues are abandoned on a device only a few years old, and new versions of the OS abandon such devices, the corporate world will not look kindly on the viability of iPad's in the workplace.  I can assume then that iPhone's going back to the 3GS in corporations were far more ubiquitous than the original iPad and thus support is far less critical.  This is still a red flag and will leave a nasty taste in the mouth of those making decisions on tablet technology.

Not good. Like most people these past few years I to have been suckered into the Apple way. NoT anymore. My Ipad now rendered obsolete and then I am expected to then go out and pay £700 fo a new Iphone afeter being treated with such contempt?!

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 heading my way in 24 hours and I am better off for it.

yes it's because Apple has it out for you...or they want you to buy new stuff (duh).

How about Apple likes to protect their hardware and doesn't want an OS that is far to demanding for the process/ram? We've seen it again and again over years that more updates require more power...and systems get slower.

The iPad1 is almost unusable with iOS5 for anyone who is not running a base install of Apps...so who wants iOS6 then? Use your freak'n head and learn a think or two about life cycle and progress.

the x-box is a horrible comparsion...it's not pushing the envelop of technolgy with complicated code...nor does it get updates on the order of major iOS versions. You really are just a little minded person...

So disappointed. As they discontinued selling the original iPad they stopped the service. Bad move

and iPhone 3GS is fast enough (or faster than the original iPad)? I don't know why and how the decision was made but the fact that Apple is still selling 3GS but not the iPad 1 anymore makes the incentive behind the decision debatable.

P.S. I'm now not concerned with the compatibility of the iOS 6 anymore but... what kind of head is a freak'n head?  I suggest not talking if all you can do is to fire at other people and make the forum smell like a battlefield

Are we all being a bit hasty. The iPad will still work just as it does now. The only problem being the apps will not update. So don't update them leave it as it is. I'm going to Jailbreak mine and hide the apps update and just leave it as it is.

Well, as I've mentioned before, it will be a problem with apps that require an online web service.

So okay. You don't update. "Cute puppy ebook" and "vegetables versus the undead" will not cease to work even if we won't get updates to the titles if the developers decide to ditch iOS5 in a few months time. But what about "Multi-Platform Instant Messenger", or even worse, "Currency Converter", the latter which I assume no traveller will not leave home without? Those apps that require an online service? And particularly if the developer of Multi-Platform Instant Messenger suddenly updates their server because they found that older versions of the client can be hacked to allow people to get services for free that is otherwise offered as an in-app purchase, and that the update also requires a client update because the protocol changed? The users of the older versions of the app is screwed out then because they can neither update to a later version of the app nor can they continue using the current version of the app?
