Q: Can I Connect my 24" Apple LED Cinema Display directly to the new MacbookPro Retina Thunderbolt Port?
I currently have the 24" Apple LED Cinema Display and am using it as a dock, dual monitor setup, etc. It is connected to my 15" 2009 MacBook Pro which I would like to replace with the new MacBook Pro Retina model. I would like to continue using my 24" Cinema Display with the new computer, but am wondering if Thunderbolt port is compatible with my LED Cinema Display, or if I will need an adaptor of some sorts.

The LED Cinema Display has a Mini DIsplayPort connection, which will plug right in to the Thunderbolt connector on the Retina MBP (RMBP?).
As the tech specs at the online store say:
Thunderbolt digital video output
- Native Mini DisplayPort output
- DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (sold separately)
- VGA output using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter (sold separately)
- Dual-link DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter (sold separately)
You may, however, want a MagSafe to MagSafe2 Converter from Apple to continue to use the LED Cinema Display to charge and power the Retina MBP. Apple changed the MagSafe connector on the Retina MBP and new MBA to support a thinner design, and it is not compatible with the older style connector.
