can't figure out what else to do, help?

I have an ipod classic and have never had any problems before trying to redeem a gift card but i can't redeeem my gift card. I typed in the code and it said my request could not be completed. I've installed a few updates to try to help it and also tried a few things that itunes/apple recommended but I am getting frustrated cause it isn't working....help?
