Looking to buy a used mac mini 1.42. Can Garage Band be updated to newest version or is this hardware too outdated?

New to Mac's and really just looking to get one for GB. I've been told that the older units (with slower processors) are no longer receiving OS updates. Is this true? Also, if the OS is no longer supported, with GB no longer recv updates either?

Thanks.
