If you have iBooks on the iPad - you can drag the pdfs into the books library of iTunes and then sync your iPad or you can use a file sharing app like Adobe Reader or Good Reader. This explains how to use file sharing.

You can also use DropBox - to move files from your computer to the iPad - but you need the app on your computer and on the iPad - both apps are free.
