Export Video for Windows

I am attempting to export a movie so it can be viewed on a Windows PC using the Windows Media Player. I can't find any settings in Final Cut Pro X that will allow me to do this. When I export the movie as a DVD through FCPx, it loads on to the PC and plays but there is no audio. Any ideas of programs that would work? Thanks

Final Cut Pro X, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

• Export from within FCPX as h264.mov

• open that file with the free tool Mpeg Streamclip

• go straight to 'Save as' and choose mp4 as format (this will just rewrap the file, NO conversion!)

User uploaded file

if needed, you can resize resolution in Streamclip - then, for sure, it converts …

no, just changing the suffix doesn't do the trick 😉

Thanks for the reply. I tried creating a mp4 file but it still won't play in Windows Media Player.

I don't understand why when I burn a DVD in FCPX it plays fine on a Mac but on the PC in Windows Media Player there is no audio.

I've been looking into Flip4Mac to make a .wmv file that would play on Windows Media Player. Has anyone had sucess using that?

I really appreciate the help.

hmmm - that is weird ... a mp4 , made with the method mentioned above contains h264 encoded video and usually pcm audio - both codecs are supported by 'up to date' Windows set-up. in use here.

but I will not debar, that some 'bare to the bones in the office use only'-Windows computer doesn't support that standards. An easy test is: do those machines playback YouTube videos? if so, such mp4 shouldn't be a problem.

but you solved your problem with wmv - this Microsoft-proprietary format HAS to work! 😉
