Heat

So i went to the apple store to check and see what the heck was going on with my MacBook Pro. My issue was that it was getting really hot, but not to the point where it turns itself off. Basically the genius told me to deal with it, what can i do? I bought the **** warranty for a reason.

I am having the same problem. I have the 2012 15" 8GB MacBook pro. I just got it today so I installed all of the stuff required for it an the heat was minor. Then I installed Diablo 3 and it was fine during installation. When I started playing though, the fan got louder and louder until I quit out of the game after maybe 20-30 mins to let it cool down a bit. So I installed another game that while it was cooling down since there didn't seem to be a problem there. After the fan calmed down and it had cooled off I started playing Diablo 3 again. The fan reached the same loudness as the first time after about the same time, and the computer started to get very hot. I asked someone if this was expected and they said yes, so I continued to play. After about 3 hours, my laptop shut off after increasingly getting hotter. I have an older desk Mac that I have logged more than 6-8 hours straight gaming on a rainy day and did not have this problem. I'm currently waiting for my brand new MacBook pro to cool down, but when it does what should I do and how can I avoid this problem? I'm going to go to the genius bar tomorrow just incase I happened upon a faulty one, but would like to know what I can and should do now.

What you should do right now is read the user guide that came with your MBP carefully from cover to cover, so you'll know the necessary steps to enable it to operate and cool itself as efficiently as possible. Then you should test Diablo 3 again, observing all those instructions, and with nothing else running at the same time, and make detailed notes of what happens. Then you'll be properly prepared for your Genius Bar appointment.

So I read the little book and got ready to retest it like you said I should so that I could be ready for the genius bar tomorrow. When I tried to turn on my now cool MacBook, nothing happened. So I tried reputations in the charger. I waited a bit and then tried it again, and still got nothing. When my MacBook turned off, the chargers little green light did also, and when I tried repotting it in, the little green light did not turn back on. Could this be due to the charger or the heat or both? And since I cannot retest Diablo it looks like I will be unprepared for the genius bar, anything I could do to be more prepared?

Thank you. I followed those instructions and it turned on, but when it turned on it did a strange thing. First the green light when I plugged in the charger delayed for 2 seconds before turning on. Then when the screen turned on it was the last place I was in diablo before I disconnected except the color was missing and it was all a light grey like the start up screen. Then the color returned. Then a pop up said I was on emergency battery reserves which I have no clue what that means, and when I tried to take a picture of it I was too slow and it disappeared. Then the last fight scene I was in played forward beyond what I had scene a few seconds which was really strange and I managed to get a little video of it. Then it froze the game do I quit out without having to force quit. And after all this, a Time Machine pops up and begins doing things. It currently says Backing up... With the barber shop blue and white spiral. What do I do now? This has been a very strange experience...
