New iPad overheating and melting case.

I rang Apple Support up today regarding my 'New iPad' consistently getting hot and coming up with a overheating screen. The iPad has melted the bottom left hand side of my £25 Belkin case amd the bottom left of the iPad seems to have come away from the screen 1/2mm... They have asked to see pictures so they can see what the damage is. They said they will get back to me tomorrow. What is the likely out come as I don't really want it replaced as it is engraved.

iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 5.1.1

With the new iPad 'overheating' is a commend issue but when it gets hot it is always within normal operating conditions. It can just get hotter then the older iPads. But to the point of melting, no, overheating is not a common issue. It is most likely a hardware defect that Apple will take care of for you.

I would sent them photos then if they agree to replace it ask them to engrave it for you. Since you had it engraved they should to it for free.

Thanks for your reply, I intend to send them pictures, I am really disappointed as I bought this the week it came out. Will they replace the engraving? On a new one or refurbished?

Okay. They should give you a new one. I haven't hear of Apple giving referbished ones out. You can ask them for a new one as well and they should do the engraving for you.
