Ipad repair without insurance

I need to have my ipad repaired but when I go through the online express repair request I don’t see the options of what I need. They are giving me a quote but I am afraid they will get my ipad and end up charging me more than the quote since I cannot describe on the online form the problem. My ipad was dropped on the concrete- the corner cracked and there is a crack that runs through the screen (I think it’s the screen- you can still see through the crack to use the ipad).

Can I call Apple to tell them my exact issue to get a quote? The quote I got on the Apple online express repair form was $250 or so but my local repair place charges $179 for glass repair and $239 for back cover replacement = $418. That makes me question if the Apple quote is accurate or not since I cannot chose my damages in the drop down menus.

Any assistance on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated!!

Apple do not repair iPads but will replace with a similar refurbished unit. You will be charged $249 for an iPad/iPad 2 and $299 for the new iPad.

Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.

Apple will provide a replacement iPad for:

iPad model	Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
New iPad	$299
iPad 2, iPad	$249

You can get it repaired at 3rd party repair sources for less $, however, the Apple warranty will be voided.

with apple what you get is a fee that you pay to exchange your broken iPad for a refurbished replacement. Can't speak about the other place.

the 200ish that you quote is about what they list on their website. It's a flat exchange fee. You basically, since you own one, get to 'buy' a refurbished replacement at a discounted price.
