How do I freeze Column A?

I opened an Excel for Mac 2008 spreadsheet in Numbers on my iMac. It is a budget spreadsheet, and I was informed on opening that my column and row freezes would not be respected. Now that it's open in Numbers I need to freeze column A so that as I scroll through my spreadsheet (which contains 24 columns) from left to right I can still see the budgeted categories in column A. It is beyond frustrating that I cannot see a method of doing this in Numbers. Selecting Freeze Header Columns under the Table menu seems to have no effect. Thanks.

James,

1. Convert Column A to a true Header Column

2. View > Hide Print View

3. Table > Freeze Header Column

You can enable page view (use the menu item "View > Show Print View") to keep the header column in view but I suspect that is not what you really want.

In situations like this I select the Header column and paste outside the table (which will create a single column table). I then move this single column around as needed.

Wow! Talk about reinventing the wheel and putting a cover on to hide the lug nuts. See Excel standard for dragging from a little icon over to make what you want stay put.
