internal speakers not working mac mini

A couple of months ago my internal speakers in my mac mini, I think a 2007, the speakers are not working, even with external speakers. when i click the sound +,- button the sound icon shows with a full bar but the speaker has a circle with a slash around it. I went ot system preferences and the sound area and the system says that there are no internal speakers. The thing is it does. Is it cause of the version of os x lion i have or is there something corrupt in the hardware. If anyone has any suggestions please add cause this is sorta ******* me off. 🙂

Could be a bad micro switch in the Headphone jack, try plugging in, wiggling and then unplugging a set of buds or headphones. Then if that and Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) doesn't fix the problem, take it in for service.

To get the volume control back on the menu bar, make sure that the box at the bottom of the Sound Preferences pain for "Show volume in the menu bar" is checked.

Ok, so I tried everything you said but nothing worked. The part for showing the volume in the menu bar didnt work either. When I click on the box and then try to click on the volume icon in the menu bar it goes away and the box is then unchecked. The output volume is stuck at full and the mute is checked but the slider and box are grayed.
