Synch specific Outlook folders

I'm a newbie to iPhones and have just got a 4S. I use Outlook 2007 [not Exchange] as email client along with Contacts/Notes etc.

I have previously used Nokia PC to synch specific Outlook contacts and mail folders with Nokia E75 [i.e. just the ones that are relevant] because there are too many folders and other extraneous stuff that will just fill up the iPhone needlessly. Also extremely time consuming and resource hungry to do it all the time. PST is currently about 2.5Gb

How do I select just specific folders from Outlook to synch with iTunes/iPhones?

The other option would appear to be to use Google/GMail, which seems obtuse when iTunes is already on the computer. it just seems to be a pretty blunt object for a device with such finesse.

I am also trying to find out how to make good use of the Blutooth and/or Wifi connection. which is easier/better/faster or is the USB cable the best, fastest and most reliable option?

iPhones can sync to a computer either via the USB sync cable or via Wi-Fi. There is no option to use bluetooth to connect to a computer for anything other than tethering.

As for syncing to Outlook... who is the email provider? If it's Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc set up the accound directly on the iPhone. If it's an Exchange account, again, set it up directly on the device.

Once set up on the device you can control exactly which folders sync.

With syncing via iTunes, unless I'm mistaken, it's all or nothing.

When you setup your Outlook account on the device there is an option under Settings>Mail,Contacts & Calendars>"Outlook Account or whatever you named it" and Mail Folders to Push> This will notify you of emails in folders by default. You should be able to see the folder structure of your Outlook by default but new mail will only arrive when you tap on the folder if you don't set the folder up to be "pushed"

Thanks for the response. After waiting for a while... the synch option polulated with the relevant folder options. Not sure why it took so long. So I managed to select the right Contacts folder.

The mail client is Outlook 2007 [not Exchange] so to be able to synch while on the road, I need to use some form of connection. Hence the use of Google because it will synch the Calendar and Emails, which in turn will refresh with the iPhone.

Not particularly elegant, but if i want the option to manage emails on the run, I need some form of accessible email client. Google to the rescue.

Thanks again for taking to time to provide feedback.

Managed to get the sync and WiFi working [albeit a little lumpy] by following the de-install as set out in

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 .- thanks to Randers4

Did it in the order specified, every last component, restarted and then reloaded iTunes, setting the update to manual, not auto.

Thus far has worked although it doesn't always recognise the iPhone on wifi, requires iTunes to be restarted. Not very elegant, but does the job at least.

Appreciate the help.
