Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.

Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with networks that require any kind of authentication other than a WPA or WPA2 Personal password.

When the Mac OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

If you have access to another Mac that is also running Lion then you can use that to apply the latest combo update to your problematic system and clear the issue. You can also restore from a recent Time Machine backup to clear the problem, which is from a faulty driver that Apple recently issued: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57451440-263/thunderbolt-update-plaguing-ma cbook-pros-with-kernel-panics/?tag=txt;title

I was able to restore rom a latest backup, but to my suprise I now have OS 10.6.8 installled instead of OS X lion.

I have a early 2011 macbook pro which i upgraded to OS Lion in December and my recent backup was around 15 days old.

Also, I am not able to download OS Lion from the app store and also not able to downlod the software from apple when running OS Recovery utility at the startup.

Any idea how can I reinstall OS X Lion preferrably do a clean install.

Thanks
