iPad photos out of order - Photos out of order after upgrading iTunes on 13 July 2012

All my foders of photos are now out of order after upgrading iTunes on 13 July 2012, they were not before since iOS upgrade about 6 months ago. What is going on?

When ever you sync your iPad to your computer the photo folders on your iPad will be arranged in the default order. If you rearrange them on your iPad they will go back to that default order the next time you sync. You might try renaming the photo folders on your computer so that they will sort correctly alphabetically and that might let them remain in correct order on the iPad.

My photos are numbered from 0001upwards, I did not have a problem at all with the pictures being out of sync before until iTunes upgraded yesterday and now my numbered pictures are not in order and untirely randomly ordered. Photos used to order pictures by hidden picture file creation date but Apple fixed this with a much earlier update of iOS. Now I have a problem your comments therefore do not help me to solve this problem.

I found that the photos I have in the sync folder on my computer (which are ordered by filename) were not in the same order on my iPhone / iPad. I also didn't like the fact video clips included in the photo folders were at the end of the photo collection as opposed to the point where they fit chronologically. As far as I can tell the photos are out of order because the iPhone / iPad orders them by ‘date taken’. The video clips are at the end because they don’t have any ‘date taken’ meta data. (My camera assigns different file names for photos and videos however, I renamed the videos such that they appeared in the appropriate order when sorted by filename).

Having read a number of forums I used a bulk meta data stripper to remove “date taken” information. (If I had simply changed the date of all the photos to the same date this – I guess – would have solved the photo order problem but not the problem of all the videos being at the end of the album. I then found I had to move the subfolder each album I changed was in out of the sync folder, then back in. After syncing my photos were in filename order and the videos where in amongst the photos where I wanted.

I had the same issue. This worked for me:

1) Open the folder that contains all the folders of pictures you want sync'd.

2) Delete the folder named "iPod Photo Cache"

3) Open one of your folders of pictures. Click the icon to show by icons. View -> Show View options and choose sort by Name (to sort by file name) or pick your favorite way to sort. Repeat this for each folder of pictures.

4) Resync to your device. This will take a while as it deletes all the existing photos and reloads.

I only tested this for "Sort by Name" but I suspect it works for the other options.

Next time you add a folder of pics, be sure to do step 3) before you sync.
