When I try to install QuickTime, I get the message "newer version is already installed". How can I do?

When I try to install QuickTime, I get the message "newer version of QuickTime already installed". I uninstalled QuickTime. I have also gone into the registry and deleted all references regarding QuickTime. I really don't want to have to reinstall Windows just to be able to install QuickTime. I have used QuickTime for years and want to use it again. What do you suggest I do?

Windows XP

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATION" User uploaded filethingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.

Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").

In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC. Now try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?
