Thunderbolt to Firewire cable for music recording

I've talked to a couple of people at Apple about this. The TB-Firewire cable only supports Firewire 800. To connect a Firewire 400 device, use the TB-Firewire cable with a Firewire 800 to 400 adapter. The Moshi Firewire 800 Cable with FireWire 400 to 800 Adapter is available from the Apple Store for $34.95. You can also purchase the Moshi 800 to 400 Firewire Adapter for $14.95.

But there will be a cord that is tb-firewire, not just an adapter?

My understanding is that it is an adapter that accepts a Firewire 800 cable just as a Firewire 800 port would. It does not replace the Firewire cable.
