Macbook white battery expanding?

Hello,

Lately my battery has started expanding and is causing mouse and trackpad to behave abnormally. When I removed the battery, everything went fine. The battery is still holding charge for about 45 mins. What should I do?

Thanks,

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.4), White 13 inch 2.1 ghz

If you have a MacBook with the removable battery you can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay.

White Batteries http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=macbook+white+battery&_sacat=0&LH_BIN=1&_sop=12 &_dmpt=Laptop_Batteries&_odkw=macbook+black+battery&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0. m 270.l1313

Or for $129 from The Apple Store http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA566LL/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY

I've bought used MacBooks off of eBay for my family, seven of them so far over the last 4 years. I've bought 8 batteries off of eBay sellers, just going with the cheapest. Only had one had a problem, it gave out after 6 cycles. That one was replaced under the warranty by the seller. The only other batteries that have been a problem were Apple branded batteries that stated bulging. I've had two of those happen.

eject the battery right away. Then you have a choice, either get a new battery or just always keep it plugged in.

the issue with the battery is as it keep expanding, it will begin to break internal components (ie mouse and trackpad). Other issues are the battery will pressure fit inside the battery slot, making it impossible to remove, and also the battery may bust/leak battery acid out.

I had the same thing happen with my 2008 Macbook Air. Took it to the Apple Store this weekend where they charged me $140 to replace it - very disappointing that they did not previously inform people and stand behind their product to replace it for free when this is a potential safety issue for their consumers and obviously a design flaw. The representative even tried to tell me it's normal for their products to stop working completely after 4-5 years and it's normal to expect the battery to start expanding (even in perfect conditions!!!). In what universe is this normal? Should our expectations be so low?

If this is a known problem, why don't they give you specific instructions on how to charge your computer if there is a way to avoid this from happening? My laptop rarely leaves the desk and is normally connected to power, should it not be?

With the potential safety concerns (ie fire) not to mention data loss, I would have thought this would be preemptively resolved/addressed. None of my other laptops (4 of them) have ever had this problem.

Check this article for HP batteries http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/05/31/us-hewlettpackard-batteries-idUSTRE74U 0LP20110531

According to Dell.com, "All rechargeable batteries wear out with time and usage. The typical laptop battery may last anywhere from 18 to 24 months, possibly more or less, before a decline in performance is noticeable."

Thanks for the links to those articles. Wonder why Apple has not followed suit? In searching support topics, looks like there a tons of people with the same issue. Why make a computer (Macbook Air in my case) with an internal battery that is going to expand/explode. At least if it was an external pack, you could remove it at the end of it's life before it does any damage.
