Apple folks learn something from Propellerheads!!

Propellerheads announced a new version of Reason for Intel macs. They are going to beta test from next week. I hope Apple gets the rewire thing straight with Logic immediately and not make people work only within Logic. It's very restrictive. I was almost thinking of canceling my imac intel order.

It took Props no time for this, they are simply the best!

xs4is,

LOL. You are funny!

The point I was trying to make was that Propellerheads support their product very well. Apple released their intel mac way ahead of time but still Props are almost ready with their product immediately. Rewire has been out for years and still Logic doesn't support it well and that's just one of the things.

I just got my 7.2 Version of Pro a couple days ago, so I have not had time to run Reason into it. I had no problems running Reason as a slave to Logic Express. Why would there be any problems with Pro? If there is, would someone like to comment on it. Ωæƒ∂ß

like i said why bother with logic. they obviously aren't meeting your needs. there are plenty of other programs to rewire to. choose one and move on. i personally am tired of logic wasting time with rewire when they could be improving the score editor or the sample editor. you know the things that make logic work, not the things that make reason work.

I don't know about Logic Express but on Logic pro, Rewire doesn't work well. I mean, you have to set up everything manually. You have to create channels, name the Rewire tracks, select the bus, the Rewire tracks in Arrange window etc. It's ridiculous. In Cubase and Live, it's a breeze. You just need to open Reason after those and you are good to go. Logic is a pro application for most stuff but for Rewire it can't get any less pro than that.

In Logic 7.2, there isn't much improvement in Rewire apart from being able to select stereo tracks.

You just can't go on buying different software programs and switching platforms. You may have hundreds to spend on stuff but I don't. It's not easy to sell your software for the same price you bought, you can't even get 75% of it back. And it's not a question of money, it's a question of them supporting what they claim. Logic has definately disturbed me because of it's Rewire capability. I switched from Cubase + Reason on a PC to Logic + Reason on a mac mainly because of the mac OS. I was so shocked to know it doesn't work well. It's an expensive affair to switch platforms, it's not just the host software, you have to buy plug-ins too.

I don't think I'm being over-critical but companies like Apple have to support their users well. They have been doing that for most part but a lot of the times, their sales people, tech support guys, even some of the users on these boards are arrogant and it needs to change.

The info on the propellerhead site is very interesting for PPC and intel users.
They are releasing a intel mac version, but it won't be a universial binary (i.e., it will not contain the PPC and intel versions, only the intel compiled version)

http://www.propellerheads.se/

Here is an excerpt:

"A Universal Binary actually contains two compiled applications, one for PPC and one for Intel. To create a Universal Binary, Propellerhead would need to use Apple's XCode compiler for both the PPC and Intel versions of the program. By contrast, the shipping version of Reason for PPC computers (version 3.0.4) is compiled with Motorola's CodeWarrior compiler. Unfortunately, our internal performance testing shows that compiling Reason for PPC using Apple's XCode compiler creates a significantly slower program than the shipping 3.0.4 version that we have today. For this reason we have decided to keep the two versions separate for the time being."

It interesting they've decided to use the CodeWarrior compiler for the PPC version and use Xcode for the intel version. This will make the intel version substantially smaller in size (relative to the UB). Also, the future PPC versions of Reason will be optimized for the PPC architecture.

by the way... How big is the UB for Logic 7.2?
