Why wont my iphone keyboard turn sideways while messaging?

I have an iPhone 4 and I know that the keyboard is not locked. Is there anything I can do myself to fix this?

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1

Double tap Home button, swipe the multitask bar to the right till you see the music note icon. Tap the leftmost icon (circle arrow) to lock/unlock orientation.

Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears)

Note: You will not lose any data.
