How strong and sturdy is an iPad 2?

How hard and sturdy is my iPad 2 glass panel? Can it withstand the weight of a 13-inch MacBook pro and its accessories and won't sink when placed beneath them in a carrying bag? I don't know if I've been articulate enough. I only hope you understand

MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

It's less than half an inch thick, alumuminum and glass....treat it carefully.

I'm not saying it's fragile, but it isn't as sturdy as a laptop, the 'open face' nature and that lovely glass screen is a huge vulnerability.

Put it on top, if you're going to put several things in a bag I'd consider a neoprene case or some such. You never realize how things shift and move and press against each other until after the damage is done.

One wrong lean and you could put pressure against the surface and not even realize it.
