How to download YouTube clips?

I used to be able to download clips from YouTube by clicking on large files (over 5mb). Large files are no longer available and therefore downloading clips is no longer possible. Does anyone know of an alternative method?

Apple TV, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

That is realplayer. It's not only an application that will play videos but it has an application built in which detects a youtube video or any sort of video and will open up a program on the dock. You will click the program on the dock and from there you can download it, convert it to ipod/mp3, or convert to your phone (even if not iOS).

Just check it out, its a great program for downloading youtube videos.

Mac Tubes should've worked.

You launch Mac tubes and a viewer list pops up

In Mac Tubes search box type the name of the videos you're trying to view.

Look for your video in the list.

Click on the video.

It should play.

While it's playing there is a gear icon at the lower left bottom of the player screen, a drop down menu appears and Download is the last option that will allow to download YouTube video in the formats that are available.

The available formats are MP4, 720p HD or 1080p HD.

Try each one to see which formats resolutions can be downloaded.

Sometimes not all video resolutions are available for download.

I use this app all of the time for many years in order to download YouTube video.

I have tons of clips and video in iTunes and on my iOS devices.

This should work for you.

Make sure you've downloaded the latest version that works with your version of OS X.

There is really no way to clear the actual list.

However you can control how many videos appear in the search by accessing the MacTubes preferences.

When you enter a new search, in the YouTube search box, the list contents change automatically.

The only way to start back with a blank list is to simply quit the application and restart it.

You shouldn't have to a force quit to have the contents clear out.

Good info and easy to follow. Thank you very much.

Incidently, why I like to download clips is so that I can watch them on my iPad whilst I'm waiting for my wife who likes to shop.

I transfer the clips to iTunes via a useful App called 'Smart Converter Pro' (it's free but the Pro version costs a few pounds). Once in iTunes I sinc it to my iPad and then my wife can shop for as long as she likes.
