Q: Is there a way to get back the advanced highlights and shadows that gives me back the low tonal width option I miss it already.

I just updated both my aperture library and iphoto library for the latest updates.  I llike much of it but i miss the advance highlights and shadows options advanced for low tonal width.  Is there anyway to get that feature back?  I notice that photos that I edited using it in the past still offer those options if i update so it must be in the system some where.  I'd appreciate any input.

Hi Ron -- much discussed.  Scan the first page of the Aperture Discussion forum.

Kirby is too modest - look at this thread:

Thanks Kirby, I go tthat to work but have a new problem.  Now when I back up to my aperture vault there are issues.   It hangs up at about 96% and I have to force quit.  I repaired the permissions and then tried to repair the library database but those hang up too so I rebuilt the database and that finished but the problem continues.  So I can't back up to my vault. I'm faced with perhaps deleting my library and reinstalling it from my vault which I am leery to do.  Any ideas?  I'm wondering if the 3.3 update caused this or maybe my creation of the highlights and shadows work around.

Ron -- I don't know.  Is there any reason not to simply create a new one, post 3.3?  (I'm guessing the problem is in updating a pre-3.3 Vault, not in creating one or updating a post-3.3 Vault.)  If that works, delete the (old) Vault.  The Vault is simply a "slice in time" back-up, so you are not losing anything.

Fwiw, I stopped using the Vault long ago, as in earlier versions of Aperture 3.x it functioned poorly with large Libraries.  I have read that that problem was resolved, but I never bothered with the Vault again, as I switched to a regime using SuperDuper! to make back-ups.

Hi again Kirby.  The first time I tried the backup it updated the vault so I'm not sure if that is the issue.   I am currently trying to repair the database once again.  I might have to consider your option. Thanks

I took your suggestion and trashed the aperture vault and am backing up using superduper. Thanks, I think it solved the problem.
