Kernel Panic on 2012 MacBook Pro

I recently purchased a mid-2012 MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.3 GHz, non-retina) and I have been receiving Kernel Panic error messages. The screen goes black with white text in multiple languages warning me to shut down my computer and the computer freezes.

I have called Apple customer service multiple times. We tried multiple things, including wipe the hard drive and reinstall OS X Lion, but I still get Kernel Panics.

One thing I did notice in the "send to Apple" report is that it mentions Google Chrome. It seems whenever I do get a Kernel Panic I am using Chrome.

So, my question is, has anyone else gotten a Kernel Panic who owns the new MacBook Pro?

Here are the applications I have installed (besides the default Apple ones):

  • Coda 2
  • Final Cut Pro X
  • Twitter
  • Google Chrome

Right now, as suggested by the second Apple associate, I uninstalled Google Chrome, to see if that was the cause. She says that it could be related to that or from a software update (which I doubt considering I have yet to install any updates since I reinstalled Lion).

Anyone else have the same issue? Thank you for your help.

My suggestion is to stop fooling with it and take it back for a Full Refund. You have 14 days to do that No Questions Asked. And then buy another NEW unit. It should not be giving you kernel panics. There is a hardware problem of some type.

I use Chrome on a 2011 model and have never had a kernel panic. It is not Chrome. It is the hardware in that particular Mac.

Whether other 2012 owner are having the same problems or not doesn't matter your system is not right and needs to go back. That is the bottom line. Even if others are having the same problem that does not exuse a Brand New computer from not working properly.

If after you take it back and get another and if the same thing happens then take that one back and get another refund and use what you were using before until Apple straightens the problem out.

Actually if many others were having this problem there would be posts all over the net about it. IIRC your post is the first one I've read about KPs right out of the box on the new models.

1) It doesn't have to be Google's "fault" for them to fix the error. I wasn't asserting a fault or blame, simply that they are the software manufacturer and Apple owns the platform - it is the job of Google to write their software for the OS and make sure it works. Just becuase it works on Windows and Linux means nothing about its stability on OSX.

2) I would rather it be a google to fix issue (who release a new build of Chrome like every other week) than Apple, who is going to be focusing on Mountain Lion.

Frankly, given the fact that chrome already has compatibility problems with the typography processing in OSX I wouldn't be surprised if they were already fixing this as part of compatibility for the new laptops.
