Someone sent me a picture of a message she received on facebook. The supposed author of the message denies ever sending the message. I wonder, is it possible that person wanted me to believe the message and had altered to make it sound like someone else sent it? Is it even possible to edit screenshots?

Thanks for a response. Just to clarify... they could make a facebook message look like it was by someone else including the thumbnail and date/time stamp with a simple editing tool? If so, what is the tool called? Again, thank you.
I've done it before. Pretty easy stuff. Font would need to RIGHT ON though. so if you think this person is not capable of it. probably didn't edit it and its real.

It looks pretty authentic except there is a fuzzy gray shadow under all of the text (tight around the text) and thumbnail. There is no fuzzy background under the white space in between paragraphs, though. If there is technology that can do it, then it's possible... and, that answers my question. Thank you both.
Sure. Any photo can be edited. All they would have to do is save the screenshot to their computer, edit it, sync it back to their phone and MMS it to you.
if they are smart and know how to use a simple editing tool.. yes
I'm not sure a simple tool would do it, but something like Photoshop could if they knew what they were doing. Not saying they did, just that it would be possible.
